Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life – A Pilgrimage for Life
On the icy morning of January 22, the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life began their pilgrimage to pray, sacrifice, and speak out for the unborn and the terrible crime of abortion. We attended the 28th annual Cincinnati Pro-Life Rosary Procession, joining several hundreds in prayer. Seth Morgan, former OH State Representative, and Julie Busby, Heartbeat Bill strategy team, spoke at a rally afterwards reminding everyone of why we continue this valiant fight for life.
With cold feet, but energetic hearts, the young adults proceeded on their journey to Washington, D.C. for the 39th annual National March for Life. This is the third consecutive year they have represented the young adults of Cincinnati at our nation’s capital. They were energized by frequent prayer, including one very reverent rosary on the Metro. They donned their blue and black ponchos for the rainy Monday march and united with hundreds of thousands of fellow warriors. They marched to the Supreme Court Building armed with their voices and their rosaries. The Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life concluded their journey at a reception hosted by Steve Chabot and Jean Schmidt. They both spoke to all the Cincinnati representatives and encouraged them to stay involved, reminding them of their personal efforts on the legislative front.
Through the generosity of several people, the Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life were able to save a significant amount of money. Dave and Carolyn Peddicord provided their 12 passenger van for the journey. And, Jim and Angela Wasel graciously hosted the group for two nights providing all sorts of amenities, including several meals. Because of the kindness of so many, the young adults have been able to donate their savings of over $1,000 to Cincinnati Right to Life. They hope to make an annual tradition of traveling cheaply and donating the savings to the cause.
The Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life group was formed a little over 3 years ago by former members of UC Students for Life in order to challenge graduating members to maintain their pro-life efforts as they transitioned from campus to society. The group has three key objectives. The first is to raise awareness and respect for the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death in the Greater Cincinnati area through participation in existing pro-life events. The second goal is to be a supporting environment for unwed mothers and families. Most people don’t choose abortion, but decide on it only after having found themselves in an unplanned pregnancy where they feel a lack of support from a partner, family, or friends. They shall chiefly accomplish this goal by volunteering at local pregnancy centers. Their third and final objective is to form a social network in which they can encourage and challenge each other to be more active in the pro-life community. They know abortion is an evil that will not disappear by doing nothing; whether they end abortion or not, they believe they are responsible for giving their best effort.
The Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life host prayer vigils on Monday evenings and the second Saturday of each month at Planned Parenthood on Auburn Avenue, participate in 40 Days for Life, attend periodic holy hours in reparation for the crime of abortion, and host social events for members. All young adults are invited and encouraged to join the group. Even if you choose not to or are unable to join, the Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life highly recommend the concept of truly making the National March a pilgrimage as well as a vehicle of giving back financially.
